How We Review
Every product we recommend has to meet the safety rating for the job it is recommended for. After that, we compare fit, comfort, build and price.
What we check
- Certification. The product must list a current ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 designation with its Type and Class. If we cannot confirm the rating from the manufacturer, it is not recommended.
- The right rating for the use. A hat recommended for electrical work must be Class E. A hat recommended for sites with side-impact hazards must be Type II.
- Suspension and fit. Number of suspension points, ratchet or pin-lock adjustment and the stated size range.
- Weight and comfort. Shell weight, sweatband material and ventilation where the Class allows it.
- Accessory compatibility. Whether approved chin straps, liners, earmuffs or shades are available.
- Price and availability. Whether it is in stock from a reliable seller at a fair price.
Our sources
We use manufacturer specifications and user instructions, the ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 standard, OSHA regulations and verified owner feedback. When we have handled a product ourselves, the review says so.
Updates
Product guides are checked for availability and price changes regularly, and the date of the last update is shown on the page.
